This sentence comes from Omer Bartov. He is a professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University in Providence, the capital of the US state of Rhode Island. He was born in 1954 in En HaChoresh, Israel. Today, he is one of the world’s leading Holocaust researchers and is considered an authoritative expert on genocide studies. For Bartov, there is a clear difference between genocide researchers and Holocaust researchers. He explains where he sees this difference in his guest article for the New York Times. He sees himself primarily as a genocide researcher.
Bartov is one of the researchers who sees clear signs of genocide in the actions of the Israeli army in Gaza. He explains this view comprehensively and in depth in his article published in the New York Times in mid-July 2025. Bartov also believes that Israel is permanently damaging itself by violating international humanitarian law and the UN Genocide Convention.
